Tens of thousands of women marched through the streets of Kolkata and other parts of India’s West Bengal state on Wednesday night.
They were protesting against the rape and murder of a trainee doctor at a state-run hospital last week.
This is being called India’s biggest Reclaim the Night march, echoing a 1970s movement in the West where women demanded safer public spaces at night.
