Tether Freezes $27 Million in USDT on Sanctioned Russian Garantex Crypto Exchange

Russian crypto exchange Garantex announced on March 6 that Tether had frozen its wallets containing over 2.5 billion rubles ($27 million) in USDT. Garantex warned its Russian users that their USDT holdings may also be vulnerable, as Tether continues to target funds linked to sanctioned entities. This move follows the US Treasury’s 2022 sanctions against Garantex, which allegedly facilitated over $100 million in illicit transactions.
